Henwing Pupa
Hook - Lightning Strike Scud/Emerger Hook (Size 12)
Underbody - Woolly Nylon (White)
Abdomen - 1/8" Wide Scud Back (Summer Duck)
Dorsal Markings- Sharpie Marker (Black)
Thread - Veevus 14/0 (Yellow/B13)
Antenna/Thorax - Two strands of Peacock Herl (Bleached Light Tan) - tied in with the tips extended to form antenna, then reinforced in a thread dubbing loop and wrapped forward to form the thorax.
Wing/Hackle - Single Starling Back Feather (Dyed Yellow) - This is one of the spade shaped feathers from the lower back (rump area) of a starling skin.
Head - Double three turn whip finish, and then colored with brown Sharpie marker

Very well executed. You will have to report on the success of this pattern. The body reminds me of Nymph Skin.

Wayne - Agreed. I see the similarities too. The scud back marterial is a lot more stretchy than Nymph Skin. Scud back is thinner and is more forgiving from a tying standpoint. I've only started using this stuff recently, but really like how it handles. I wish I had picked up a pack of clear scud back, since it is so easy to color with markers.

Unfortunately, I will not get to fish this for months. I drove over the creek this afternoon and it was covered in an icy mess. It liked like a dirty glacier.

Correction - I was comparing scud back to Thin Skin. I have not used Nymph Skin, so I cannot compare these materials. I looked up Nymph Skin and see that it forms nice segmented bodies. Looks like nice stuff. I'll add it to my Christmas wish list.

Very wasp-like in appearance, Ray. With an alternating black/yellow abdomen, you could turn this lovely pupa into a killer yellow jacket pattern.

William - Henwing is the style. I will explain later.

Very nice, Ray. The "hen wing" style is similar to a Glanrhos style fly. Once you get to get this fly wet, you'll have to let us know how it works.
