Tools?

Anybody here make any fly tying tools? Cool dubbing needles, brushes, rakes, whirls...stuff like that. Maybe even more fancy stuff like bobbins? I would really like to see them and possibly purchase or trade for some stuff. A lot of things I make myself just because I'm a metal fabricator by trade and I like to tinker...but I would love to have some stuff possibly made by forum members and hopefully future friends. I just feel like hand made stuff has more "life" than store bought stuff.

Dearest T-12,
I found your post quite interesting! What a great idea! I have some really neat tools from a certain bamboo rod builder in the Netherlands (Ok, It's Ruard!) and they are fantastic! I need to gather them together and photograph them and post them (thank you Ray in advance!) here on the forum! Grant me some time & I'll see what I can do!
I am a hack when it comes to fabricating metal, wood, ivory (just kidding), fabric, and every other conceivable materials! I do admire the ones (like you) who can!

DOUGSDEN I don't think you give yourself enough credit. You tie a FINE fly so by default you are indeed a craftsman. It's kind of a zen balance thing for me going from working with something that requires all your strength, grip, heat, and a very heavy hand for 12 hours...then coming home and wrapping the smallest of starling feathers or jackdaw scalp.
Anyway...I'm not talking about anything too crazy here. Nothing along the lines of Matarelli hand made bobbins or anything. Just thought maybe if someone made DIY dubbing brushes or bodkins or something it would be cool to trade.

One of my tying friends is into tying large steelhead and bass flies... He made this dubbing brush jig for some of us in our group. For anyone into tying flies like game changers, large minnow style flies this jig is far less expensive than the ones advertised on various sites....

Welcome to the forum. I ghad some left over solid surface material from a bathroom upgrade a while back and made some Pearsall's spool holders for one of my bobbins. They work really well .
