While we're on the topic of tying wax, any tips for getting it out of the insides of your ceramic or metal tube bobbin holder? I've thought of heating mine up with a lighter and spitting whiskey through it, which might be fun...

I use Baily's wax and like it alot. I also got some wax as part of my Santa swap gift this Christmas. It's from Gunpowder Custom Tackle. I haven't tried it yet. It's #621 and I have to find out if that's harder or softer wax. They list 3 different numbers on the package plus cobblers.

Something like a pipe cleaner dipped in alcohol. Heet comes a convenient size container and works for general cleanup.

I can't figure out the message either. Message old hat and have him give you my number or email or have him give me yours and I'll get you fixed up. I just poured a huge batch for a fly shop and to catch up on orders and will drop a few pieces in the mail to you.

Chugbug - You could also try soaking a piece of butchers twine (cotton string) with some acetone (nail polish remover) and pulling it thru the bobbin spool. Just us a dental floss threader to pull it thru, then draw it back and forth to clean the inside of the bobbin spool. Should dissolve and remove wax deposits.

I used to have a bobbin and a bobbin cleaner. Don't recall the brand. The cleaner was a tool that was like a piece of wire that matched the inside diameter of the bobbin tube. Just push it through the bobbin from the bottom and it would push the wax built up out the top of the tube. Worked great. Lost it somewhere along the way.

Rookie question time. Could cobblers wax also be used for applying dubbing to the thread? I ask because I have a lifetime of tying wax that I use and a container of Wapsi dubbing wax. If the cobblers wax could take the place of the Wapsi dubbing wax, I'd be happy to only use the cobblers wax.
