Lance, that is a neat old colour chart and will be a handy reference.
Our friend Ray has a mad scientist friend that makes and colours some wonderful materials, I wonder if he might be able to help you find/make a seal substitute in the correct colours you desire?

Jeff, that's good to know. Ray is a useful fellow to have around, as I observed first-hand last week.

The real point of all this is to find a commercially-available product in the right color that I can cite in the recipe for Pete's flymph when I finish the book. I might be willing to do a special dye lot, but I don't expect the reader to have to go to such lengths.

It would help if I could find a complete, up-to-date Veniard dye chart on-line, but no luck yet. Their website is glitchy too.

Lance, I had a similar problem with a local company that makes rod blanks, their website colour chart and trying to assertain translucentcy of their product. I asked for some colour samples to be sent and whilst the colours themselves were similar to the website, they showed them online as solid colours and the samples are tranlucent not unlike early Fenwick feralite rods.

What I am trying to say is with veiwing website pages and differing programmes used in the building of the site or the variations of the viewers own PC settings colours viewed can differ somewhat from the product when it is in hand.

I would keep pestering the big companies, tell them what you are trying to achieve and force their hand a little into tidying up their ways. In this day and age there is no reason tiers should not have access to complete and true colour charts as your father did in his day.

You poor fellow. Sounds hopeless.
What's worse? I don't know what that hook is!

I'll probably have to look into it eventually. In the meanwhile, maybe someone else knows.

Frankly, that hook doesn't look so good to me. The barb seems too close to the bend to get a good hold. I'm probably wrong, but that's the way it looks to me.
