Thread - I don't have the proper color silk, so I used 8/0 rust brown Uni thread. Heavily waxed
Body - Peacock herl
Feather - Partridge
Wire - Langartun xtrafine wire (olive)
Head cement - Clear nail polish

Those will be great to have in the fly box this year!

Yes, they work very well for me. Lots of black caddis where I fish.

Nicely dressed. I always have a couple of those in my box. Very effective fly.

Great looking fly! I like the color of the thread on the head. What would you normally use for the thread color?

Ron that Damascus is the post for my dubbing spinner that someone gave me as a gift. I thought it would make good background.

NJpatbee, I like to use crimson or orange silk for the heads of the fly. In trying to conserve my Pearsall's silk, I use 20 D GSP for most of the fly and then make the head out of silk. Not sure how much silk I am actually saving but mentally it helps me think that I am. The good thing about 20 D GSP is that is very thin and you can color it any color with a permanent marker. You do have to wax the GSP to get it to stay on the hook initially. Hope all this makes sense. But for these flies I solely used Uni 8/0.

I forgot who posted about the wax and use of varnish but I heavily waxed the thread on these flies and used clear fingernail polish for the head to test what happens and it seemed to absorb the fingernail polish. I also found out it takes very little fingernail polish. For most of the flies I tie for fishing, I skip the fingernail polish for no good reason I guess.

Use red thread for the head and butt and you get my version of the "Red Ass".

Wow! What beautiful examples of this truly wonderful and productive and historic pattern! Newriverspey, your thread choice, I feel, is exceptional! I think it lends itself well to the pattern at hand! I typically use olive thread or Pearsall's silk but, after seeing your stuff, I am going to change my mind!
All of the patterns shown are just super! You guys create such beauty out of the basic materials that are so familiar to all of us! Please keep up the good work! It's eye candy for sure!
