Fly Fish Food Caddis Emerger

Post by Mfs686 » Sun Jul 02, 2023 10:20 am

I get those emails from Fly Fish Food with the tutorials for their latest patterns. Most of the time I ignore them but their last one was for a Caddis Emerger. Since I haven't been able to get out fishing I figured I give this one a shot.

Had most of the materials except for the Antron Z yarn (whatever he called it). I used some Chadwicks Color no. 69 yarn I had from my Dad's tying days in the 40's. I think it will work.

Off to tie some more that I will hopefully get a chance to use soon.

I got the same e-mail. That is a good looking fly. I'll be interested to see where the fly with the Chadwicks fishes in the water column. The Z-lon for the "bubble wing" is pretty hydrophobic stuff that may keep the emerger near the surface film or in the film. On a small fly, it may not make any difference at all.

looks like a variant of Craig Matthews' Iris Caddis... a very effective fly here in Oregon..

I was going to say the same thing. It is very close to the Iris.

If I remember correctly, they did mention Craig in the introduction to the video.

The fact that there was a caddis hatch going on at the time played no part in the success. lol

No, you did the work. The fly just helped.

Well done!

I have three words.
It's a keeper!

Gotta appreciate it when you tie a new pattern and give it a tweak for one reason or another and it proves to be a worth fly.

Job well done on tying it and catching the fish with it.

Wait, that's more than three words.
