Generic March Brown

Post by newriverspey » Sat Apr 06, 2024 12:43 pm

Hi all,

I finally was able to log in for two days in a row after multiple attempts over the last few months. This is a tie that worked well for me on a recent trip. It is a generic tie but I really like the hook, which I found when I was in Japan. I am not sure the brand but believe it is a Tiemco and it is a size 12 hook. You have to love an up turned eye on some flies.

Hook = Tiemco upturned eye #12
Tail = Partridge
Hot spot = Orange Veevus
Gold rib = Lagartun small oval - gold
Thread = Orange Gossamer Silk
Body = SLF dubbing blend
Hackle = Partridge and black chickabou

That looks excellent. The hook is really nice. Do you know if it's available in the US? Hope you don't mind if I steal this one.

Thanks Lou and Novabass. Ron, I am not sure about the hook availability in the US. When I was in Japan, I did learn that many different brands of hooks are made by one or two companies. I really liked this hook because it was an up eyed hook (return eye), made from a stout wire, and available in a size 12. It would have been nice to find this hook in a size 14 but I could don't find them and figured I could proportionally tie a #14 on a #12 hook. The other interesting thing about the hooks was that odd size hooks (5,7,9,11,13,15,17) were quite popular. Hopefully, my streak of being able to log on will continue and I will post some other pictures.

Beautiful tie. Consider it stolen; it will work very well up here.
