Donald!
Let me say, first, that I have enjoyed your web site on this topic, for some time, having studied the "art of tying" several years!
I have an opportunity to tie flies as a demonstration at an upcoming, local event, the advertisement reads as follows:
Welcome to the Missouri Tartan Day Celebration, April 8, 9 and 10 2011!
We are a non-profit, all volunteer organization that hosts the Midwest’s premiere Scottish-American cultural event. Our objective is to showcase Scottish-American culture and promote good will through music, dance, food, storytelling and variety of interactive activities. Last year we had over 60,000 visitors and it is FREE to the public* The festivities begin with a Ceilidh (Party) on Friday night followed by a parade on Saturday with vendors, demonstrations, bands, athletics and music the rest of the weekend. We provide a wonderful experience for the entire family in Frontier Park on the Missouri Riverfront, St. Charles, MO.
Our primary mission is to educate the public about Scottish-American culture and that is where you come in to the picture. We would like to showcase many of the traditional aspects of Scotland and its culture. This would include such things as golf, hunting, fly-fishing, equestrian activities, wool spinning, automobiles, whiskey, etc….the list goes on and on.
Please take a look at our website and feel free to call me so that we can discuss your level of participation this upcoming year.
So, at this time, I would like to discuss with you about maybe using some of your web site pages as reference in putting together some reading materials for this event! I would only do so, with your approval to the details of content and in full reference to your site as a source of this information!!!
While I am not Scottish, (though, 1/4 Irish!) I take pride in lending support of education in the tying arts and history in general. My idea is to produce some posters, highlighting the stories of historical reference, on your sight, in and around the 1800's, providing "modern" examples of "wingless wet flies" while demonstrating modern tying! (My "tying in hand" skills are poor!)
I would be humbled in receiving your support and guidance in this project!
And of course, should you want to come on over to the States on holiday, we could do the demo together! Following the event, we could experience our fine Trout streams, as once you got here, I would take pride to provide tour of our State of Missouri, offering lodging and guide on the waters!
Thank you for your presents here!
FliTrap
P.S. Input from anyone with interest in this topic, is welcomed as well! It would be way too grand if anyone has examples of "old Flies" that could be displayed, under guard!!!

St. Charles, Missouri is across the State from St. Joseph, and just west of St Louis, Missouri!
I hope that you had time to travel south of St Joe, as you otherwise missed all of the trout fishing areas in the State! The Mississippi River is at best, home of a lot of what we call "rough fish", such as carp, catfish and such, though some report catches of brim and bass as their primary targets!
All accessible trout waters lay south of the Inter-State Highway, I-70 that runs East to West from St Louis to Kansas City.
Thanks again, for your support!

P.S. So, what type of "show" did you do in St Joe?

Re: Donald Nicolson----Tying Scotish Style!
i drove up to St. Joe from Lakeview, AR. north by northwest the whols way. If i remember right it was bout a 7 hour drive. They put me in a Holiday Inn, which is always good because i have a "points program" with them. i think i have a points program with every hotel that has one. Anyway.....the show was a sportsmans type a deal.....held in a big hall right across the street fropm the Holiday Inn.....i think it was a stadium or something like that.....looked big enough for all kinds of different things.......basketball, rodeo, racing, whatever. i was a guest of a local/regional fly fishing club. They had me tye at their booth. Turned out to be bout half demonstration and half teaching. It was a two day show with alllllllllll kinds of outdoor "Stuff." Everything from camping equipment to RV's, boats, four-wheelers, hunting and fishing gear.......all that junk. i remember it was FREEZING COLD there.....and snow was on the ground.....so no fishing on the way there or the way back. It was Feb.
i've fished a few Trout streams in southern Missouri.....Tannycomo for one.....damn good fishing, but to crowded for my taste. When i go fishin' i prefere to be alone.
