Can I get a link to commercially offered Tying Wax for the soft hackles I am attempting to tie.

Almost any good fly tying supply offers waxes that will work for tying. It depends upon what you wish to accomplish with the wax that determines which kind you like. We have a "Links" forum with a page that lists a few suppliers. Check it out, then go to those suppliers and search for "wax" or "tying wax".

I recently picked up some spider wax from North Country Flies in England. It is billed as being made with the formula developed by James Leisenring. I have not used it much, but so far, I really like it. It is very tacky.

I have some of Bailey's wax it is like putting a monkey wrench on your thread. I also have some of the Spider wax it is also an awesome wax. Jimsflyco also has a great wax.

here's the waxes I have used for tying.

http://www.feathersmc.com/products/Cobblers%20Wax I have only used the Bailey's wax, not the Daley. The white Bailey's gives a subtle color shift in the tying silk and helps grip materials nicely. The Bailey's cobbler's wax gives a proper Greenwells color to primrose silk, and is pretty tacky as well. Bill also has started making a very nice tying wax that is tackier than either of these waxes and works very well for touch dubbing. I store my white and cobbler's wax in water to maintain "freshness". Both waxes warm easily before use.

http://www.jimsflyco.com/catalog/Head_C ... -41-2.html The Leisenring-Keene wax is, to me, very old school. The wax needs to be broken into pea sized pieces and stored in water. It takes a bit longer to warm in the hand than the Bailey's waxes, but it's a very nice wax that gives a bit of a color shift and helps hold material well.

The General Bobbin Tying wax is really nice as it comes in Pea sized pieces. Gives a nice color shift to the silks and warms very easily and helps hold materials well.

The Leisenring/Keene wax is formulated a bit hard because after you start rolling it the oils in your finger's start to break down the gripping power and soften it up. By the time you have used up the bb sized piece it has lost it's gripping power.
This may not be noticable if you use a bobbin. However I notice the difference because I generally tie Wets without using a bobbin.
I had the chance to handle wax made by Leisenring and it is the basically identical as the wax I sell. The consistancy is the same but the wax is darker, most likely from using a darker pine resin.

Just tried to "link" to the feathersmac.com. to check out some of Bill Bailey's waxes.
