Longer the name, simpler the fly. Intention is to amplify movement of hackle by lifting the rod. Ispired by Tenkara style wets...

hook ..... #16, 3X heavy, 2x short shrimp hook
rib ....... copper wire
tail ....... pheasant tail barbs
body ..... pheasant tail barbs
thorax ... hare's dubbing mix
nackle ... hen, cree

Optional:
same as above, with amber glass bead at head:

Great tie. I have never fished with the Tenkara style flys, but I can apply your ingredients and style to alot of my own ties. Very well done.

I agree, very well done. I think these flies would work extremely well.

I have a question about your hen hackle. How stiff are the hackle fibers? I have a small cree hen cape, and have found the hackle fibers to be quite stiff (sort of like a dry fly hackle).

Mark - I'm not sure you would like the one I have. It is very similar to the ones you and I were looking at at the Baxter house in Roscoe. The feathers seem to be sort of like an old-fashioned dry fly cape. I love the color of the feathers, but the hackle fibers are quite stiff. I bought my cree hen skin from an old gentleman in the Adirondacks. Let me know if your interested and I may still be able to get you one.

Ray, i definately do not want yours..............thass yours...........not that you were offering, don't misunderstand............i just want you to know i would NEVER accept that. So anyway...........i am DEFINATELY interested, and while the fibers might be a bit stiff.....thass ok too. i'd prolly prefere they were softer.......but, i'll take what i can get, as long as the colors are there...............all those at the Baxter house we looked at were ok..........but none of them were true Cree.....not even close. i've got a way serious stash of hen skins/backs/breast/Brahmas/etc.....but no true Cree.....thass what i'm after. Got plenty of Cree rooster, but no hen. i'll send a check or hooks in trade or a check and hooks or whatever you like.....(other materials), if i can spare it.....just lemme know what your thinkin'. ;)

Mark - I will try to take a picture of the one I have to see if it has the colors you want. If it looks like what your after, the next time I visit my folks, I could try to pick one up for you at the fly shop where I bought mine. I will start another thread in the fishing cabin, so we don't highjack kacbo's thread...

Back to the fly.

Very, VERY nice fly. I could almost eat it myself.

A very nice fly, same recipe on a wet fly hook,
with the hackle wound normal would be another fine fly.

Thanks everybody! ...especially Vicky!!! :)

Hen is domestic (domestic food chain production; provided by cousin of my ff friend), barbs are thin but soft, feather is from cape. Don't know how it would perform as dry fly hackle.
