Dark Watchet techniques?

I was curious how you guys approached tying a "traditional" Dark Watchet. I've cheated before and just used a purple rib that's been touch-dubbed over an orange thread-base, but I've got to admit the traditional wind looks more elegant.

Is this a case where you need to go whole-hog and tie with both strands of thread off the bobbin, or do you tie-in, say, the purple, as you might a strand of floss then spin it with the "dusted" orange you've got in your bobbin holder?

Any thoughts appreciated. :)

Outstanding video--I can't believe I haven't run across it before. :) Lots to learn from Mr. Herd just about the simple economy of wraps needed/required to get things on the hook...thanks for the link!

Is anyone else having trouble with the video on Straw Mayflies? Every time I try to watch it; it stops after a couple of minutes. I was able to watch all of the others without any problem.

If you haven't read his book, The Fly, I highly recommend it if you have any interest at all on the history of the sport.

Thanks--he does seem a rather entertaining chap; no doubt he's a good writer as well. :)

The moral of my tale is that just about any fly can claim to be a Greenwell's Glory, provided that it has a yellow silk body, and that the fisherman believes in it enough.
Words to live by, no doubt--thanks for the link! :)
