what a delightful little feather...........just tyed my first ever Spider using a feather from a Jackdaw Scalp i picked up at Blue Ribbon bout a month a half ago. Nicest little feather ever.............for such a purpose. Tyed it on one of those Czech hooks..........just the sweetest little fly you ever saw. Used the UTC 140 Watery Olive thread for the body..............just delightful. The upmost in simplicity.....
OH BOY.........now Misa saw it, and she wants a bunch for Slovienia next year...........and she wants 'em with a Pearl ribbing......and a Peacock thorax...................

Very cool--I've been mulling over jackdaw ever since I got some in my last Great Feathers package.

(I'd be afraid to step into Blue Ribbon, though: that must be an awesome shop.)

It is Bro. It's always the first place i go in West Yellowstone.......this year wasn't as good as it sometimes is.....but that was because it was latter in the season, and a lotta the good stuff was sold out. He didn't have any Plover, dyed or otherwise. i got the last Sharptail skin. He was almost completely out of dyed Hung. skins.....i got an Olive. But the cool thing was.....he had lots of hip stuff for the flymph tyer. Craig is VERY into Tenkara. He was selling Misa's book like hotcakes, and he participated big time in the Tenkara Summitt and did a GREAT power point program, with a lotta video. You'd flip if you saw the fish he's catching AND landing with those rods. Humongus Trout, and very often in the winter time, dry fly fishing to big risers with midge patterns. Way cool.

He definitely seems like one of the good guys--I have one of those "milestone" birthdays coming up in a couple of years, so I might start planning on making the pilgrimage.

DO IT Bro.! Go early or go late. Course the go early part will be totally dictated by that year's snowfall. But go before the run-off or go after all the tourist are gone in late Sept. Those two times of year are the best.....and you don't nessessarily need a Montana fishing license...........although

.....but if your on a budget, just get "the Park" (YNP) permitt (cost less), and do all your fishing in the park. You can save that way.....and the fishing is endless.....all wild fish. Slew Creek, the Lamare, Soda Butte, the Gibbon, the Firehole, the Gardner, the Gallitin, the Yellowstone, the Madison, and much much more.....scads of smaller creeks, lakes and ponds.....all within the park. And you'll save on gas instead of runnin' all over Montana. Stay in Livingston instead of West Yellowstone.....much more economical.....GO FOR IT!

Ha...I'll definitely be picking your mind in the upcoming months, then. At any rate, it's still a ways a way--after breaking both my wrists this summer, I'm afraid I burned through all my accumulated "spouse points" at an appalling rate.

I'm still bad underwater, but I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Brother.....these jackdaw feathers are just so much fun to work with.....as i spose anything that delicate would be. It's like makin' love to a women for the first time..............if you know what i mean. Takes ya back to when you first learned how to tye soft hackles.....after years of using much larger and tougher feathers. It's a blast.........no matter how big and fat your old fingers may have become or how much ya might shake on any given day.....you still "know" all the old tricks and "ways" of doin' things. Still got "the touch." Frickin' "somethin' else."
