that hook has a return wire eye.....it's a very cool hook.....i've sent some to a few of you.....but i can't remeber exactly what it is.....i think it' an old (model) Mustad.

Pretty dang good for a first fly, Mark! It usually takes me a few flies to get a pattern "dialed in" the way I like. I am impressed by how nice and slender you got the body using a dubbing brush. I usually end up with a bulkier body, when I use dubbing brushes (wire core ones anyway).
I see that you have left a small bare gap behind the eye of the hook. Is this by-design? In other words, is the bare shank like that used on Catskill dry flies (allows room for using a Turle knot)? I just want to understand your reason for tying this way.
PS - Tell Misa I like the first photo the best. I love the trout lurking in the background, waiting...watching...

Tkx., i tyed it off behind the hackle......so it's actually not a bare spot.....it's just where the whip finish is.......i still gotta ton to learn bout doin' the dang things correctly...............but............i just got a PM or two from Chris S. tonight.....and he's definately comming for Sowbug and stayin with us.....so i'll have him show me a thing or two.......that cat knows Tenkara everything..............but to tell you the truth..........i highly doubt i'll ever get that into tyin' Tenkara flies......i do like to fish with the rods a lot. But flymphs and soft hackles work just fine. But who knows.....i may get into it a bit........

We're starting to get calls from clubs to come and do Tenkara programs/pauin' gigs.....so it definately won't hurt to have it down a bit.
Seems to me, that doin' the final whip is easier done by hand then usin' the tool on these flies. Think i'll try that.....

i was just sorta messin' around with CDL and decided to do that fly.........the hackle is stiff and oversized......so i sorta "set myself up" in a way.....

All part of the fun.....
oh, the body there is a wire core brush yes........
hope you found the CDL i put in that most recent package i sent..............? and btw, i been meanin' to ask you...........are those Mellinistic feathers, the ones you wanted?
Misa hates that drawing.....she thinks the Trout came out lookin' like a Carp

Yeah............somethin's bitin' me..........

.........to get rid of the itch i hadda do another one............
i used two bleeched and dyed (Grey), and one Bronzed peacock herl(s) for the body, up to the point where i tye off and took the thread in front of the bead to do the hackle. Then when i brought the thread back to finish off the herl.....i only used one Grey herl and one Bronzed herl to finish up. And just "Biced" the thread black to whip finish.
i don't much like the tinsel i used.....on a hook this size i mean.....it's to heavy a gauge.....fine for a bigger hook. Mylar would of worked better.....
