Jim - Excellent blog. At some point in the future, could you include the same range of colors for the hen necks. I see a number of beautiful colors in the dry fly necks, but wonder if they translate to the hen necks. I have a general impression that the colors of the hen necks/capes are more muted than from the male birds. Is that true?

EEO and all that... Don't want to have to report ya to "The Feather Goddess"
Most of us here (I believe), use the hens feathers for what we do here...

Hebert hen necks in general actually translate fairly well with most of the colors. As Ray has pointed out the colors of Hen Capes are more muted than the Rooster cape colors. This is due in large part to the web in hen feathers. Colors that you do not find often in Hebert hen capes are Light Ginger Dun, Cree and Barred Ginger, and Dun Badger off the top of my head. Others are the Champagnes, which I didn't cover due to their rarity. When breeding Champagnes it is a crapshoot, with lots of undesirable "variants" that are dyed black.

Jim, this is cool. It's a great way to have a more direct connection with your costumers, offer a significant resource to this group and to stay engaged with the fly fishing community in general. I'm looking forward to future posts as informative as this. I'm also looking for a similar report or a connection with the Hen capes. I know there is an issue with availablility, but I can't remember where you ended up on the actual issue of being able to carry product and what you have. It may have changed even since that conversation began and I would like to hear about that too. In a world where money isn't a major factor...I'll take one of each, please. It's all part of my effort to reduce my enventory apparently. You don't make it easy.
