Today I'm headed out with a new s/h, for me any way. To see how it works. Sulphur's and sulphur duns are flyin. What I did, Pearsall's flou. green silk, under fur from a picric dyed polar bear and a picric dyed badge hen, tyed Hidy style. I also have plenty of drys.

That should work well for carp.

Oh come on, you don't need a safety net! Fish the new tye with confidence. I can't wait to hear how you make out.

No photo's you have to use your minds eye.
The fly worked great, I think. The first fly was busted off on the second cast. The second fly had two misses on succeeding casts. After that the fish turned off and the hatch was done in just a few minuets. So I think it is a good blend.
No carp today just Bows and on Bass. I was hoping for nice golden carp.

Sounds like you nailed the mix for that fly Narcodog.
But I am curious, did the Polar Bear kick up a fuss at being dunked in the pitric acid?
The way you wrote it sounded like the underfur came from a pitric dyed bear..... before he gave up the fur.

Jeff, it was a real struggle but we got it done. We had to throw a baby seal in the cage and while he was busy with it we ran up behind him and dunked his rear end in the stuff. It had to stay on for about 10 min before we could harvest the fur. I just used a LAW fur rake to get what we needed. Of course there is a big yellow spot on his rump so if any one wants any I'll tell you where to get it. I'm done with that project.

Great report, Bob. I'm not surprised your blend worked out. It sounds like the right stuff. I would like to see the pattern. I've seen polar bears but not tied. If you would bring them north with you. Great to hear you got out.
I had a very similar day yesterday. Again, limited to early morning fishing I was happy enough to get out for a couple hours on the Gunpowder. Bill was able to land one but I was left with my own small victories. Like yourself, I consider my out a success in the field testing dept. I fooled a couple trout on new flymph patterns and a couple more that confirmed the effectiveness of one that has now moved from my top 5 to my top 3! (during sulphur season and on weekdays) I missed 4 good hits on top drifting flymphs in the film. But like yourself, the take was more than just an inspection and yesterday that counted!

Of course the bear was only discussing global warming with the baby seal right?
