A startlingly effective little wet fly….

Post by Johnno » Mon Jan 30, 2023 2:27 am

I saw a pic of a water spider with a wee air bubble near the head. So I came up with this.
Peacock herl body with a clear bead at the front with a light CDC hackle. 12 to 18. Very simple, but surprisingly very effective little fly I have discovered to my joy. May be worth a crack in your neck of the woods this coming season.

The Bubble Spider.

I will add some of these to my box this week. Thanks for sharing. I’ve had great luck with your patterns in the past.

I also love the fly and have to tie up some of your proven pattern to fish along with mine. :D

Yours will be a faster tie as well. ;)

It's a smoke fly on steroids. I'm stealing this pattern; it will work up here.

The Rootbeer midge larva in size 22 to 18 has been very effective this winter. I decided to throw a hackle on it. Then, try Johnnos technique.

I should have used dubbing or Peacock. That tubing kicked my butt.
