Carl, that is beautiful. The "Tups" blend is always unique and this one seems as close to what I have in my minds eye. The range from tyer to tyer is interesting, even when the recipe is followed to the letter. This is a nice one.

Carl, I'm glad to have caught this post again. I was just reading that section in the Addict this morning and was imagining what he described as a two inch hackle. It sounded awful in the reading, but you make a very compelling steelhead fly here. That is such a nice example of putting a face with a name. Reading about the pattern and seeing this is enlightening. Love it.

His books for me were such a great introduction to soft-hackles. I read him before I read anything from Fogg or Leisenring, and well before the historic stuff. His writing is clearly intended to remove the pretense found in a lot of other literature. He wasn't trying to make his mark by being clever or impress anyone with his deep wisdom. It is such easy and pleasant reading and informative to the end for a beginner and veteran. I have to admit it's been a few years since I've pulled the books I have off the shelf, but his passing has been an opportunity to appreciate what he did. He just shared something that he truly loved and made it accessible for everyone.

Well said. I think you touch on a very important aspect of Nemes. Another fly fisher next to you on the stream who happened to be an accomplished and accessible writer that loved to share information on this style of fishing..
