All very nicely tied! I love the comparisons. If I have to pick one it will be.......number 4! I don't know I just like the hook and the peach fuzz.

Bob, these are on #16 hooks, but I like them for all kinds of little dark flies. I carry these in #18 and a dun hen hackle in size #16. I just like the body color. It's not sure it's a matter of what's going on in the water for me, especially when using a claret body. Brown, black or gray? Tan, orange, olive or yellow? Yeah, but these have to fall in the very effective attractor/suggestive camp if you're looking at imitation. Besides, CB things all the silk will be clear when wet. (goofy grin) By fickle I meant how do you choose between a Grouse and Orange and a Partridge and Orange? Or a curve vs a straight shank. It seems like we're splitting hairs. (no hares were injured in the making of these flies).

Fortunately, most of my aquatic insects are exactly the same color as a Mustad's hook. (To quote good Dr. Franklin's "Old Mistresses Apologue," "In the dark, all cats are grey." ) Rest assured though I harbor no such doubts about the trinity of Peacock, Seal & Plover.
