Iron Dun Llama Flymph

Bill, does the wax have much or anything to do with water-proofing, or to what degre or the other, does it help to float a fly, or keep it in the film? Just curious because i've never used wax (on purpose/for a fishing reason), in tying soft hackles/flymphs.

Mark ~Wax must have some sort of water repelling effects, but I've never noticed that it made a fly any less fishable. Perhaps other forum members can let us know their thoughts/experiences on this. (For what it's worth, I think wax would be very helpful in tying your JazzFlies, as it helps hold things in place and minimizes the number of thread turns required. Since they're not meant for fishing anyhow, it wouldn't have any adverse effects on them )

Hi Bill, thanx for the reply. i wasn't thinking in terms of it being a hinderence at all, just the opposite.....i was wondering if it helped it's fishability. And i do use wax when finishing off the heads at times, and occassionally when setting a wing or tail. For exactly the reason you said. It helps "hold things in place."

Hey Bill. Now that was what I started out trying to accomplish when I first tried the llama. I did not get that result. This turned out to be a very nice, buggy body. You've shaped and manage it as a dubbing very nicely. A great little Iron Dun variation.
