Re: Turton's Spiders
Agreed Bill.....the flymph style fly simply KILLS! Donald, i do herl heads the same way i do butts for the most part. Ya just gotta make sure tyou get the thing started right and tucked up close to the collar or whatever else it's following.....and be sure you have enough (for security), but not to much tag to wrap over so as to keep your final wraps to a minimum. And make sure your taper is not to radical so the herl (turns don't) doesn't wanna slide/scoot forward on ya. It's easy.....just be sure to tye in so your herl heads rearwards.....But, if YOU want it goin' forward, that's perfectly fine too. i like it headed rearward.

The problems with the Magpie herl is that it is not strong enough: It breaks off, perhaps they are to old??

I was not content with the first winterbrown: here is the next one:

Substituted the magpie with a black pheasanttail.
And here is the Grey Dun Midge

I agree with Mark's comments wholeheartedly.

Re: Turton's Spiders
These seem spot on to me, when I imagine what his ties would have looked like under macro photog. Great set. I'm looking forward to seeing more of these all lined up. If I get to it in the next week or so maybe I'll give a few a shot. a Daiichi 1640 should be a pretty close match to keep em consistent. It might take some time to get the quality of these though. Nicely done, Ruard.
