Hackle?.... er..... em....... you now how hackle for wet flies usually comes from necks- bodies- or wing somewhere, this one is from the soft broard flat tail feather of a Golden Pheasant hen.
Not the usual kind of material you find on a wingless wet hackle, but when you tie it on a #2 hook you have to think big. The tail had the barb length and sementation of colour I thought might work with the body material which is Australian possum. Slightly darker with guard hair in the body section and lighter well picked out in the thorax. The body is ribbed with quite large green wire.

Mark that is one heck of a nice looking fly!

Thankx Ray & M.M......i dunno what happened with this one........Misa took the pic where the body doesn't show at all............ ........but anyway. Tag is the same as the head.....same thread, w/a good coating of Hard Headed........body (2/3rds abdomen area), is a blend of yellow and brown Seal.....& the thorax area is just the yellow Seal. Ribbing goes all the way thru the thorax area as well, and it's yellow Montana Fly Company Lucent Chenille. The first (palmered), hackle (this pic suckx :x .......... ), is yellow dyed Grizzly hen.....the collar hackle in front is brown & white hen hackle........i dunno what Misa was thinkin'...........w/this pic. .........btw, the hook is a Bronze Daiichi Alec Jackson Spey size 5 i think....... ;)

Golden Pheasant hen
Looks great...there are a lot of "exotics" (to us Americans) like Reeves Pheasant etc. that seem to have a lot of possibilities if you're willing to think outside the "North Country Wet" box. :)

Mark--love that last one. :)

As I have stated elsewhere, those exotics are not too hard to find..... just don't look in the flyshops. Have a look on the internet for people that show/ breed poultry and ask them nicely if they will keep some moulted feathers for you.

Mark--love that last one. :)

Hmmm...I'm halfway expecting the next picture to be of your uvula (from a posterior perspective, no less. ) Great looking fly, though--I'm a big fan of "two-toned" hackles on big flies like this.
