April Grey

Post by Smuggler » Thu Mar 15, 2012 8:12 pm

So last week I received a nice little package in the mail from DD full of different types of hook samples.. so of course I had to test one out.
Image
Recipe:
Thread: Drk.Brown Uni 8/0
Hook: Up-eyed wet fly
Tail: L.Dun cock hackle
Body: Grey/Med.dun dyed turkey biot. After applying I coated it with Sally Hensen's.. doubt you can tell by the pic though.
Thorax: SLF "Natural Grey" Squirrel dubbing.
Hackle: Med. Dun hen.

That SLF dubbing is some great stuff, it has just the right amount of flash in it.

The hooks are pretty great. Thanks again DD. If you guys are in the market to feed your hook OCD http://www.flyhookfiller.se/
hooks are stout. Just be careful when mashing the barbs, you'll have to bake them for 15 @ 350 or so.

Nice looking hook. I love the SLF squirrel dub myself.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

That hook was begging for that pattern. Nice post.

Sweet fly. I love gray in a fly. The name here is perfect too.
