Officially Iso day.

Looking at T2F's Iso and reading fishing reports made me think.. maybe I should be tying up and fiddling around with some mats for Iso's.. since they're going to be early this year as well in my waters.

Mats:
Thread: Dark Brown Uni 8/0
Tails: Three tan goose biots, tied in one at a time.
Back: Waxed and doubled over piece of white pearsalls. Any yarn or material like the sort will also work.
Body: Hare's ear reddish brown dubbin. I believe this matches Iso nymphs very well.
Thorax: Two peacock herls wound and bulked up.
Hackle: I used a hair hackle for this, a finely tipped deer hair does the trick.

Nice combination of varied materials into a really good looking fly; I do believe that should catch well.

Hook: 1XL & 2X heavy standard nymph hook, sproat bend.

I wish I had seen this post before visiting the local fly shop. I had been looking at the tan biots, but talked myself out of them. Now I wish I had bought them...

Great fly! I can see this one putting a number of bends in your rod. It just has the look of success.

You're right about the Iso's. I need to work on these myself. Official Iso day helps. That dubbing blend is very nice indeed. Great job.

Thanks for the kind comments gentlemen. Looks like were finally getting some much needed rain here and in the northern tier of the state. Monday it looks like they could have 3 inches of snow too! What a crazy turn of events in weather. One week it's pushing 80 now 3 inches of snow and cold rain. Although it might push back the bugs a bit.. I'm kind of hoping so so we can enjoy some extended fishing into late May/early June like were supposed to!
