Here's a link to a source for the hen pheasant. I found the price acceptable and their service was outstanding.

The hen pheasant isn't the problem. Who is providing good, clean snipe skins? I ordered one once, but it was so badly dressed that i gave it back.

Lance - You may want to give Jim Slattery a call (phone 406-646-7258) to see if he has any hidden away. Sometimes he has stuff that is not listed on his website (http://www.jimsflyco.com).

I was talking with Mike Hogue last week and he mentioned that he had recently received a shipment of skins from England. He may have some snipe skins amoung the shipment. His phone number is 607-347-4946 (website http://www.eflytyer.com)

ThAnks everyone for the comments on the pattern.

I aquired the skin last year and have been tying with it quite a bit lately to get aquainted with the options the bird supplies. I thInk the hen pheasant would be a suitable replacement for this feather, although quite a bit bigger, but you know how that goes, it just isn't the same. I'll be posting some more patterns shortly. I have been very busy this week with other stuff.

I came to own the skin by chance, a matter of really being in the right place at the right time and through the grace of a member on this forum, who was very busy when I dropped in, but took the time to treat a fellow flympher. I was on a family vacation, stopped to say hi to Jim as I was passing by his business, in the middle of cooking breakfast for a large crowd he ran to the "back" and returned with one of those "look what I got" smiles. If you have been tying for a while you know the ones I'm talking about.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Tie2Fish put me in touch with a US dealer who has a supply of snipe skins in at the moment. I ordered one that should be here mid-week.
If anybody wants to follow up on this, send me a PM. The stock probably won't last very long.
