P&Q

Post by flyfishwithme » Mon May 28, 2012 9:50 am

I haven't placed a fly on here for a while.
This one I use on a middle dropper when caddis are about.
Apologies for the light and it isn't up to my usual tying standard. Bit rusty as I haven't tied for a few months.
Why P&Q, well most of the fly is peacock and it has an obvious hackle. Works a treat though.
Image
Hook is Varivas 2200 Curved shank size 16
Thread is Black Bennechi 12/0
Body is Stripped peacock quill dyed Orange
Thorax is Peackcock yes black. This has a small flue to it,
Hackle English Partridge.
I like Orange and seem tone using it a lot since the musing of Reed (Overmywaders) on Ornage as a trout sees it.
Happy tying and fishing,
Philip

Tied up a few of these on B100 & B110 - both orange and green versions.

Bugger all happening on the river this afternoon, water well up and slightly coloured, so as caddis should be starting to catch the trouts attention I gave the green one a run today - it worked very well , taking my best trout of the season and hooked another that would make the good one look small. Whatever way the light was today , I could see quite a few takes, several trout turned and chased it downstream before taking.

Is is a good fly, yes today it was, another 90 trout to go and will it perform in a decent caddis hatch ? , hooked enough today to suggest that it warrants further investigation :) :)

Lovely fly. I am intrigued by the use of black dyed peacock. I bought some last year but have been saving it for something special. This looks like the perfect reason to put it to good use. Thanks for the inspiration.
