I thought I would drop in this pic of the other pattern I was talking about. It's an incredibly effective pattern whether larva are moving or not.

That's a great photo--we have Rhyacophilidae here in the GSMNP, though fewer Hydropsyche since the there's not a lot of algae in these high-pH freestoners. :)

William,
..........Ah....da.....bla-bla......these are the words I am trying to spit out when I look at this beautiful pattern you have created! I well remember the picture you have posted. It's from the great headwaters trip that you and Ray made whilst we were all under the spell of Roscoe!

John, if I remember correctly I left a long tag off the bend of the tying thread, wrapped the stretch material to the thorax then touch dubbed the long tag with a seal and hare blend and brought the dubbed tag up between the wraps. Lots of ways to get this result.
