Thanks fellas. Didn't think it that special..... just goes to show ya
William, Dewhurst's Sylko (Australian manufacture sewing thread) is a heavier cotton thread. The label on the reel says 40 so I am guessing #40 denier? So it is heavy enough for tying but not far away from the Kinkame silks I picked up in San Francisco which are #50, probably equates out somewhere between #6 and #3 Uni-thread...... well it does in my mind!
The colour is D258 Golden Cinnamon. They state "Mercerised Cotton" and "Fast Dye" on the label, so I am guessing it is colour fast and just didn't get a quick dip!
I like it, even if it is a bit bulky and it is not fuzzy like a lot of sewing threads. For vintage stuff it is pretty strong as well. It was a popular thread in the 1950-60's with many a seamstress or home sewer.
The dubbing is possum belly which is very soft and golden/cream in colour- almost an amber of sorts.
