Hackle: Neck feather from Guinea hen skin
Rib: Braided oval silver tinsel, X-fine
Body: Black silk floss
Thorax: Black dubbing

Bill - These flies should give William a proper introduction to the ways of Tenkara. The trout aught to find these irresistable, rendering them foolish in their enthusiasm.

A great looking pair of flies! Fantastic shape to the taper, the Guinea should be stiffer hackle and behave differently in the water, both look to be the kind of ties any self respecting trout would find hard to pass over.

Thanks for the comments, gents. William and I did manage to get out together for a day on the Gunpowder, which was still discolored by spillover after a torrential downpour on the weekend. Unfortunately, neither of us was able to tempt any of the wild brown trout with our kebari dressings. But the company was outstanding and we gleefully exchanged some goodies that we have been accumulating for each since we were last together in Roscoe. All in all, a great day.

Oh, I'm glad you posted these. I especially like the taper and proportions of these two flies. These are beautiful little kebari's, and as pretty in person. I don't think I've seen guinea hen used like this, and I know I've never seen antique wire. It's a classic touch. I wish the water/trout had been more in the tenkara mood yesterday on the Gunpowder. Thanks so much for the introduction and then the complete schooling I got on picking off very fussy, highly selective trout. You're a master on several fronts.

I second the comments above. And the photography really shows them off beautifully. Your tapers are perfect. Guinea hen skin? Seems like a good investment, put to excellent use here. Don't see this for hackles very much.
