Over here nymphing dominates wet fly (including soft hackles) as a form of fishing. Indeed I am the odd one out fishing wets here opposed to nymphs. There has been much written on the tradition of tying and fishing nymphs in NZ, usually heavily weighted bottom bouncing across and down forms, not so much on the modern techniques.
I have a feeling true nymph imitation and use is not as popular in the States? If not, good on you for giving it a whirl!

Some interesting books on the subject (if you can find them) are; Nymph Fishing for Larger Trout- Charles E. Brooks, Trout With A Nymph- Tony Orman, Nymphing A Basic Book- Gary A. Borger, Nymphs and The Trout- Frank Sawyer and as a great reference and entomology book Nymphs- Schwiebert.

Tying and Fishing the Fuzzy Nymphs is not a big step away from flymphs. It is one method that I most often do on the stream or in my float tube and where I started in tying and fishing.

I assume you already have Czech Nymph by Krivanec et al. I would also highly suggest this book to add to all the other good suggested books-
Nymph-Fishing Rivers and Streams by Hafele

I am working on making a few variations of Flymphs already; Hares ears, PhT.... I went up to the water today and slammed fish using the Czech system and will be working on Spanish next, which is more the style I've been use to with a few modifications like placing my weight at the bottom of the team, since before I wasn't using as heavy as flies. Then I switched over to an Orange and Partridge above a very small Pheasant Tail.(#22) Again I did very well as the fish began taking off the top water. All in all it was a nice day with a missy long drive, since the best water nearest to me is 2.5 hours away. (small streams are 45 min. plus I have to fish with gang members. Oh joy!)
