I've been thinking for a while that the world needs a Tellico soft hackle. You beat me to it.

It's a neat tie, though I tend to mangle the peacock herl when securing the pheasant tail back--it would make a great "anatomically correct" beetle imitation, though, complete with elytron. To be honest, though, I think a much more elegant solution would look much more like Ray's silk floss flies, though I have to admit I'm liking the hot orange Pearsall's/single peacock herl as a rib.

Tie2fish: they might get "bit," but I'm hesitant to fish them, if only because I won't be able to make fun of folks fishing Green Weenies any more.

Bill - Terrific fly. I'm really digging the herl rib on CB's and your flies. It adds a great segmentation and color contrast.

Wow, I like that a lot: it's quite a trick to secure that wingcase while maintaining the herl rib intact...good show!

Great stuff. I think I'm going to stick to yellow, though, for a body. I do like the ideas of chamois and tinsel.

CB ~ I noticed while watching the Davie McPhail video that he coated the body with something, the name of which I didn't catch, before he wrapped the herl. So, when I tied mine, I put a coat of SHHAN on the body and wrapped the herl "into" it before it dried. Then I waited for the stuff to totally dry before pulling the PT fibers over the back.

You're a regular riot, William The fly is tied on a Daiichi 1710 2X long nymph hook, Size #14. "SHHAN" = Sally Hansen Hard As Nails, which dries totally clear and doesn't yellow with age. The only thing about it is that you have to make sure you let it dry completely before you handle it, and this usually takes a while.
