The original Ice Breaker is tyed with the bead . I dont tie beads on mot of my flys, but a good part of the time whie fishing I do slide a bead up the tippet and then tie my flymph on. The bead settles in front of the fly and looks like it is a part of the pattern. That way the fly does not have to be just a nymph. It can also be an emerger, a dead adult, and with enough grease, a dry by simply removing the bead from the tippet.willowhead wrote:HEY! if your gonna fish nymphs (NOT flymphs, thass different), you might as well tye them with a bead........i think generally speakin', they work better that way. JohnP, I agree. The Prince is BIG medicine here as well. For me, it is another pattern that can do double duty by simply sliding a bead ahead of it. It's a pretty easy way of trying different colored beads as well.
