is interesting. I plan to take a bunch of these in different sizes on both straight and curved hooks, and try them out. I have no idea what the trout's opinion will be. I suspect that this huge size 10 hook is the more serious problem, since 14 is the typical size for Tups.
Hans, thanks for the compliment on the "photograph." For convenience I've been using my old Epson scanner in my home studio, and tweak it in Photoshop. Not even close to the shots you make. My photo studio is in an outbuilding heated with Propane that is more expensive than pinot grigio, so I keep the temperature at a minimum, and use the scanner instead during the cold months. But for some things, the scanner is serviceable.

Willow, seeing your post pop up in these strings is great. I'll be thinking of you as you go through tomorrow's ordeal. Hang in there.

A flatbed indeed can do a grand job, as it has in this case, on patterns which can handle being 'flat'.

The dark hackle may be a disastrous (indefensible) departure from the established recipe, but we'll see.
Here is Leisenring's Tup's Nymph pattern that also includes a tail (a second Tup's recipe in the book omits the tail)—

Hook:13, 14
Silk: Primrose yellow
Hackle: Very small light-blue hen hackle or medium-dark honey dun hen hackle
Tail: Two or three pale honey dun cock fibers
Body Halved: rear half of primrose yellow buttonhole twist; thorax or shoulder of yellow and claret Seal fur mixed dubbing spun on primrose yellow silk.

Leisenring said this pattern catches fish throughout the season, so perhaps it was intended as a generic attractor, not a strict imitation.
