Thanks to everyone for the well wishes! Actually, Logan, my son, posted this picture of himself laid out on the stretcher onto his Facebook page and you wouldn't believe all the sympathy he got from many of the girls at his high school! So he's kind of enjoying his moment in the sun.

Mataura mayfly - you are right about cradleing a child until the ambulance arrives. Logan was conscious but very confused about what had happened and kept asking what day it was, and what month? The ambulance arrived shortly after I arrived on the scene but I did have a minute or so to comfort him as best I could and assure him that he was going to be OK and that the doctors would take good care of him. Of course, now, he doesn't remember any of that! :D

He had a bad crash last summer too, not quite as serious though, which sent him to the hospital. When I saw my son laying on the ground this time I remember thinking, not again! Why couldn't it have been someone else this time! :) All I can say is, thank goodness for helmets!

Tom,

Thanks for letting us in on you family story. Concussions are serious business, whose effects may show up decades later, as my family has learned. I am glad to hear that it was not more serious. My 22-year-old son visited us for dinner tonight, the first time I had seen him in several months, so your son's accident hit me at an especially receptive moment.

Your fly, as usual, is a consummate combination of poetry and craft—which seems to be typical of our core forum team. Inspiring to see. Thank you.

Good to see you back.
That's one of life's "heart stopping moments", for sure. Been there. I think things like that are the start of the realization that no one is bullet-proof.
Very pleased to see he's doing well.

Glad to see you back and posting ...even more glad that there are no permanent problems for your son...I've had the pleasure of experiencing .....uh...concussions on 3 occasions; football related, 2x4 side my head at work (still don't remember who did it) and a 4 story fall off a scaffold (it broke) at work...which goes to prove...WORK IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN PLAY!

I am so relieved to hear your son is going to be okay. I would of been scared out of my mind.
