Instead of messing with patterns today I tried to improve on the photos. Built a light difusing box, had a lamp at both sides and one at the top.

Original.

Did a few of the others as well, don't know if I improved things much. Either more light or less restriction of the lights I am using.

Jeff, your definitely moving in the right direction. The detail and nature of these materials is much more evident. Makes all the difference when you're doing something unique like this. Did you look at the photog threads here? I think Ray put together a number of links in one place. Happy tinkering.

Jeff - Terrific job. I love the close-up shot & improved lighting. Great job.

If you are interested in reading up on photograph, there have been a number of different posts providing guidance. I gathered together links to all of the various posts and point to them in our reference section (see link below):

Scroll down the the sections called "Tips on Digital Photography:" and you will find all of the links.

Could you share a photo of the light diffusion box you built. Always good to have new ideas to copy... ;)

Thanks for the confidence vote Ray and the links, had read a few but every bit helps. I would prefer to come straightish off the camera than spend too much time with editing programmes.... lazy, yes, in need of instant gratification..... yes. :D

Won't post photos of the box, as it is is typical Kiwi make do! A cardboard box, majority of three sides cut out, blue copy paper glued to the back, white copy paper glued to the sides...... ugly, but cheap and practical. Might replace the white copy paper with tissue and see what that does.
