I tie the almost exact fly except the red wire head, I use red thread 6/0

Wayne, you have really put up some great flies. I love these two. I have been fooling around with the wire heads as well, but failed to work out a rib to head as well as this. Carl's right about the proportions on these too. This is what I look for and I'll be trying to achieve this effect myself. I started tying a number of Killer Bugs (Sawyer's) with some extra fine wire spooled on a bobbin and some of the yarns and just kept tying with it. The x-fine wire really wants to break off, so it's tricky but can be whip finished easily and tapered as you've done here. Somehow it seems more palpable than a beadhead although I'm not sure why that is. These are just fantastic. I haven't fished an orange PTN yet...but I will certainly put a few in my box. Excellent work.
