So norm, your fly pictures on this thread. Are the hooks size 26, and are you using micro tubing? Just curious here.

they are not size 26 and i did not use "micro" tubing

with or without glasses, i cannot see nor do i intend to tie anything on a size 26 hook :D

i used the next size up from "micro" size tubing and the smallest diameter wire i had in stock to tie my flies

the flies ive shown were strictly for the effect of what can be done by inserting wire inside of tubing of whatever brand or size

the wire/tubing combo was tied in behind the bead and the tubing was stretched while wrapping the thread to the bend creating a smooth under body. then the wire/tube combo was wrapped to the bead in touching turns and trimmed off.

mike tucker of colorado came up with inserting oil into his brand of tubing, liqui lace, in the late 70's

here are some of his videos

http://flytyingnewandold.blogspot.com/2 ... ideos.html

i only try to insert wire into about 1 to 1 1/2 inches of tubing at a time or enough for 1-2 flies. i will hold the wire in one hand and spinning the tubing on the wire with the other hand. its virtually impossible ti insert a spool of wire into an equal length of tubing.

a few other items can be inserted such as thread, krystal flash, oil, ink etc to give other effects

hope that helps and satisfies your curiosity :D

Wayne your patterns always put things exactly in perspective with hooking-up above all else and by the best means possible. I really appreciate the time you put into the information you have to offer. I've come to live by it at times, so please keep up the good work.

Thanks Norm, for the pics and all the info. This place really is an exceptional venue.

Wonderful work with all the patterns here, that stonefly is a killer though.
