Mr. Gingerdun, So happens I took this favorite book to work today, rare that I ever take it out of the house, and as luck would have it I had two of those pages picked out! Excellent suggestion. I'll also check my Nemes book
I have all of Skips books. I'll check it out. I also love the idea of BH's but the beads cost $$$$, so BH, for the most part except on the Zebra Possum are out. Instead I've been adding 5 to 6 wraps of .15 on the smaller flies to help them sink.
Thanks for the input

Ariel,
Call me biassed but when you move to dries may I recommend considering CDC&Elk as the pattern. Literally a 2 minutes fly, and no expensive hackle. Just nudge a friendly duck hunter...

Perhaps faster still - an Improved F-Fly

For a sub-surface pattern - the Trout Crack

What I might suggest for 2 softie hackley type things that work here may not suit your targets over there..... so I will back off this one
I will however second Hans on the CDC&Elk or CDC&Deerhair. Maybe 2 min for him but more like 5 min for me
. But it is proven world wide as a fish taker and maybe even the Pheasant Tail of the dry fly world.
