I think it is two horse hairs, one dark brown and one off white.

Hair is correct. Horse is not. Plus, is a single hair.

Unvarnished it has the sheen of horse hair or boar hair, which is paint bristle like- not a soft fur like hair that you might find on say fox, squirrel or badger or the like. I feel it is from one of the bigger animals.
If not Pork based...... nor bus driver ear hair..... many animal whiskers show the same kind of traits as the fibre you have used.
