William's Questions Answered Below
"How does it compare in tying with Starling? I would imagine the hackle has as much shimmer as the tips of the best Starling hackles."
The Magpie coverlet feathers are larger than most starling, but are similar in that they are both very delicate feathers to work with. The Magpie feather has a nice metallic blue tint to it. The Magpie coverlet feather seemed to be similar to Jackdaw coverlet, but a bit easier to control (Jackdaw has unruly hackle fibers).
I think I bought my Magpie wings from Blue Ribbon Flies (http://www.blue-ribbon-flies.com), but I could not find them listed when I just looked.
"And how did you get the heading to change? And will it come up in a search?"
I noticed that the subject line was editable and decided to change it for each fly to see what would happen. It seemed to work (no unforseen problems noticed...YET). Yes, the post comes up immediately in a search. I tested it on the word "Strawberry", and it took me directly to the fly in the middle of the post.
Sorry about piggie-backing all of the flies into a single thread. I figured they were all too similar to post separately. Just variations on a theme. I did the same thing with the recent bubble-back series. I figure it made it easier for people to comment on them, if they were all together.

Re: Magpie Pearly Gates
Ray, the Magpie wings sound great and I know there some older patterns that call for them. There are now some newer patterns that are going to be deadly. Nice job.
No problem on putting the images all in one thread. I prefer that for the sake of comparisons, which are my favorite kind of posts. I was just looking through all the past pages and looking at the older patterns, and stumbled on some of those stacked in another post that I found by accident, and would have liked to have seen them in the list. We can't have it both ways, but your suggestion to change the title withing the post worked out nicely, if you knew the pattern was around and could come up with a key word. I'll follow you're lead, I do prefer it.
This groups posts over the past year are absolutely the nicest stuff I've seen online, anywhere. Not just the quality but the diversity, creativity and understanding of what the hell you're talking about. I'm so priviledged to be associated with this group. Thanks for all the generous comments and suggestions along the way. (sorry for the sentimental hijack. A hijacker with a heart, doesn't happen that way in the news.)
