The body material readily accepts the ink from the pen, so I think it will work well when fishing. I will report back, once I get a chance to fish these.
I am still using some caddis pupa that was colored with Sharpie last Spring. The color has not worn off yet. I dont really worry too much about the marker wearing off. I will usually lose the fly to a bad backcast (bushes), or to a snag in the river before it has a chance to wear off.

After seeing tie2fish' CFR fly I decided to drag out my Brown hen saddle. I cant believe I forget about this wonderful source of Softhackle. Since I am using a size 8 hook, it's hard to beat saddle

Caddis Pupa

HOOK - DAI-RIKI 135 SCUD size 8 (box in the pic says 12)
THREAD/UNDERBODY - UNI 8/0 GRAY
OVERBODY/ABDOMEN - MIDGE D-RIB (CLEAR), colored on top with lt. Green and Brown permanent markers. Left natural gray on the bottom.
THORAX - LIGHT TAN OSTRITCH
COLLAR - LIGHT BROWN HEN SADDLE

I will be throwing some of these on the White River (Colorado) next week.

These are fantastic. Great posts all around. I'm wondering if Simms has a $25 retractor for a sharpie to attach to my vest? Gotta get one. :D
