Thankx very much Ray.....the recipe is on the previous page. i just did another fly on the Targus hook i used for the second fly posted here. Here's the recipe for it.....
Pink & Steel
Hook: same Targus as listed above
Thread: pink Danville 6/0
Abdomen: one dyed red Peacock herl & one bleeched and dyed pink Peacock herl, twisted around the thread and wraped
Thorax: wraped dyed red Peacock herl
Ribbing: UTC red small wire
Wing/Collar: shoulder feather off a dyed pink Silver Pheasant skin, tied in by the tip, where abdomen & thorax come together, & wraped thru the thorax

i figured out why Vicki likes the ones she says she does..........they're HOT Spots ..... .....she's gotta "Thing" for Hot Spots ok Vicki, i'll do you a couple of my Hot Spot Swap flies and give 'em to you in Roscoe.

Yeah yeah so I've got a thing for hot spots. I love the long hackles too though.

Thank you Mark. I'm really enjoying the flies you've been posting. I can see how these flies have helped fuel the inspiration and now I have something else to look forward to in Roscoe.

Thanks everyone, this post has been a fun exercise. I love the ignited spark in Mark to jump behind the vise, way cool.
Don't worry , I won't be fishing with Emyr's flies, they certainly will retire to a honourable home when I get back to OZ.

Mark, my man, you got some crazy skills going on... How cool are those flies, absolutely spot on, the proportions are perfect. The flow of materials is beautiful as are the colours and textures chosen. Good thing you put the pattern description up, I'll be tying some for my box for sure. I'm honoured that you are donating your inspirations to me, means a lot to me friend, like Christmas all over again. Your flies are going to be joining Emyr's when I get around to immortalising his back home. The only rightful place for them to end up.

Btw, thanks for the tip on the hackle stem jobby, neat idea and on your second tie I think it actually looks really cool. I reckon you could play around with contrasting threads and get some neat/intentional looks/contrast.

Ray I haven't put photo's of the ones with tippet attached in this thread, there are a few more flies I haven't added. I'll add one or two with tippet so you don't go blind straining to see something that ain't in the photo Sorry mate...

Thankx Kars.....before i forget.....as per that little trick, there are times when you can't get a full 360 with the bare stem, because of it's thickness by the time you come up and all the way around.....such was the case with the first fly i posted here. Two things, 1., i was tyin' this as a fishin' fly.....so i went ahead and did it anyway, as the fish doesn't really give a rat's a$$, because i had no intention of the fly ever bein' on display. And 2., when this happens (speakin' of fishin' flies.....if i can't get a clean, full, 360 degrees on a show fly, i won't do it), i'll just "catch" the remaining fibers with the thread, and pull them up and into the picture without, havin' to complete the circle with the rachis. Whenever i wrap hackle, wether palmering or doin' collars on wets/whatever, OR when doin' dry flies for that matter.....i ALWAYS keep my bodkin in my mouth. That way i don't have to look for it, and i know RIGHT where it is and can grab it instinctively when i need it. So, before i would "catch" those few remaining fibers to finish off a collar or whatever.....i'll usually reach in there with the bodkin and pull them out and free them first. Actually i do that whenever i feel it's nessessary along the way with each turn. i simply do not want any fibers to be trapped if at all possible. So i use my bodkin all throughout the process whenever needed, dry or wet fly. Oh, and a VERY fine needled bodkin at that. Most bodkins are a joke because the needle is way to big.
Three more flies up later today.....one will be a new thread called "Pink Steel" (Dressings page).....one will be at the "OH YEAH!" thread (Cabin page).....and one will be at the "New Emerger" thread (Dressing page).....and btw, your package is ready to go.....hooks, flies, and a length of gut.....be careful when you open the package (baggie inside), not to let the length of gut fall to the floor.....and let me know "when" is best to mail it. Takes a while for things to get to Austrailia. i've mailed hooks (Bob Frandson) there several times. Mark, your Welsh Inspired Mayflies are something I just had to come back and take another look at. I hope you explore these a little more. These are just outstanding. I can't stop looking at them. Carry on!!!
