Don't be so picky. Just tie us up some great flies using....Whatever was given to you! Which on is the ferret fur? I have some black fur, long fibers... what is that? I don't really care... I love the whole package and have been having a blast with the stuff.

Black? Best you ask Ray..... but I am guessing the "Roscoe Mascot" is not going to be making the trip again next year!
Ferret is black tipped guard hairs and cream underfur- not unlike Skunk (a ferrets larger cousin).

Mataura mayfly; Howdy;
I guessing that everyone got some amount of the orange yarn
, don't know if
'other' yarns were supplied by the "Collective" or you ...
...
What was the staple length for the ferret?????
Sure wish Ray and Carl had ID'ed them furry patches before they sent them out
NOT gripeing (to much), but it would cut down a tad on the game of who to ask for the
game of 20 questions...

I thought the black patch looked like black bear....lol. I have no idea what some of this stuff is for sure.

There was some Walaby tooMataura mayfly wrote:Well, just for those of us that were not at Roscoe, nor received one of those packs........ what the heck was in it?
I may not be able to exact duplicate the yarns for exact shades, but can (have) send yarns of similar properties.
Furs were silver grey possum and ur-em ...... that other white grey one. I think some of you may have been lucky enough to score some ferret fur out of the deal and I am fresh out of Ferret- so the "extras" will miss out there (sorry guys).
Feathers we are looking at Mallard hen and drake?
Anything else??
Greeting
There will allways be a solution.

Re: Swap suggestion feeler.
Sorry for not labeling the materials. I was more focused on splitting the materials into even lots.
As far as I remember, the feathers are hen mallard (nice earthy brown tones) and bronze mallard (rich brown feathers with dark barring). The fur patches include silver possum, a brown possum, some wallaby (the really soft stuff). One of the skins had a very dark tail (nearly black), which was cut into smaller sections. I do not think there was enough of that for all of the packages.
Now that I think back, the packages also contain small patches of hen hackle saddles (compliments of William Anderson). They were all different colors, so no two packages contain the same mix.
Some of the packages also contain a few yards of Chris Stewarts Utah Killer Bug yarn (substitute for Chadwicks 477). This stuff is awesome for killer bugs, and when chopped up, it makes a great dubbing blend similar to tups.
In summary, no two packages were identical. They are each somewhat random. SURPRISE!!!

Re: Swap suggestion feeler.
Thanks for all your and Carl's efforts, Ray. I have already been having fun with my care package.

Re: Swap suggestion feeler.
Thank you Ray, that is helpful! Now the black one was what? It looked like black bear, but longer maybe?

Re: Swap suggestion feeler.
Kelly - I am guessing that the fur came from this animal, or at least one very similar to it. (Jeff - Please correct me if I am wrong). The black section is from the tail.

As you can see, the upper back has brown fur. The lower back has lighter silvery fur, and the tail is very dark brown/black.
