Wayne,
Are your partridge feathers dyed olive or are they just picking up an olive
color from the body when you took the photo?

Ken, some are Olive, some Golden Olive, and you cant see it, but Brown as well.

I dunno.....Yea, maybe a bit full but still very fishable! It seems the dubbing is kind of an extension of the hackle collar or vice versa! They meld into one happy, fluffy looking gem!
I like it! Try soaking them (fishing them actually)! It should collapse nicely and still maintain the shape of a water born insect!

Doug, they are meant to be full. Over hackled. When the caddis start to emerge and the water is slightly stained, this type of pattern will make it easy for a trout to find it.
Even as a dropper on a Euro rig, or cast upstream, high in the water column, these will move fish, just as bushy as can be.

Wayne, When I read the title I was picturing something that was grossly overhackled. What you have pictures of doesn't fit the bill at all for me. That hackle fits the fly perfectly, at least to me. There's nothing about the fly I don't like, except I don't have any tied up yet. I can see a big trout leaving his hide to gulp that fly.
The nymphs look deadly as well.

I like it, Wayne. Very buggy and yet kind of a small streamer look to it to cover both worlds.

Wayne - Do you ever treat these flies with floatant, or generally fish them as-is? I'd be tempted to fish them treated, in the surface film.
I'm going to have to dig thru my old materials to see where I put those bags of dyed loose partridge hackle. I believe I have a couple colors stashed away somewhere.
