Another Irish classic, and I feel safe posting this here, there is no way this fly is winged, nope, not one bit of it!

They are great fun these Irish designs, aren't they? I was just saying to someone, you really feel like you are *dressing* them, rather than merely tying them.

Like a butler, getting them ready for a good night out or something!
Mind you, I am beginning to struggle to see where the bumble ends and the dabbler begins, I must admit!

Nice effort Glassjet, you must have drunk too much whiskey when u were over here.
I would tend towards a slightly shorter body hackle this will allow cloaked wing to sit better, and a slighly longer, ( ahem ) wing - the profile of yours is tending more towards a bumble than a dabbler. Mind you I would have no qualms in fishing your version.
There are a couple of methods of tying these , as in fully cloaked where the wing is even around the hook, another where the top section is closer to a full mallard wing. The way its tied will decide which position on the leader it operates best.
Fully cloaked version - top dropper.
Playing at the vice with irish wets is very enjoyable, they are some of the most colourful wets u are ever likely to come accross - mind , the more sombre ones are still the best.

You can do that? Must try harder next time...

Right, that's sorted the difference out between the two, was struggling with that one.
Going to have a go at a few from Peter O Reilley's 'Flies of Ireland' next....
Thanks for the feedback Otter, appreciated.

Great couple of flies and a great post. Every time I settle in here I learn something new. Love it!
