I was in a swap where we received a material and had to devise a pattern using the material. I received some hemp twine. I unraveled a bit of the twine, cut it up, and used it in a dubbing loop to build the body of this stonefly flymph.
Hook: Mustad Limerick wet #10
Thread: purple gossamer tying silk
Tail: hare's mask guard hair fibers
Body: hemp twine chopped and in a dubbing loop.
Thorax: Peacock dyed black
Hackle: grizzly hen

Smoking fly Carl! Very creative, especially the purple head. Love it.

Thanks all for the comments. I almost always add purple somewhere to my stone fly patterns. One of those "good luck" charms for me.

It's kind of like a Breadcrust fly. I wonder how translucent the hemp gets when it's wet (I wouldn't know myself

) and how stiff the fibers are. Looks great.
