No not a moan! I bought a grouse skin the other week and couldn't resist a little play... On styles.

Hook - Kamasan B175 #14
Silk - Orange Pearsal's
Body - Silk, single layer to bend, then wrapped as a rib back to the hackle
Hackle - Grouse Hackle (Back)

Grouse & Orange (North Country)



Then Clyde style.



Finally, Tummel style



Then I thought it would work if I changed the silk to Jasper.







That's the first time I've used the Jasper silk, I think I'll use it more often in place of orange.

Dennis, what a great series. The regional comparisons are fun. It's a really nice group. With the posturing about what is and what is not a north country soft-hackle from one village or another, it really isn't important and I like these a great deal. Nicely done.

I love everyone of them! You did a really good job on all of them esp. representing all three "styles". The jasper silk looks awesome in combination with the well marked grouse feather. I want to encourage you to please keep them coming!

The Grouse & Orange (1st. pic.), the silk you wound almost looks like it's corded.
Did you make it look like that or is that the way it comes off the spool?
Is that what is called 'Buttonhole" ?
What's with the Jasper? is that kind of a varagated type of thread...?

Those are some really good lookin' flys. I like that you saw fit to do one for each of those styles.
Helps me recognise the differences.

Dennis, well worth opening the purse, a fine set of flies. Funnily enough last week I added Jasper to my list of pearsalls to be ordered. Seeing it on your flies re-confirmed that decision.
