I've been tying a few of Aaron's mozzie patterns tonight...
And again, with a little bling under the silk (salmonberry Pearsall's, purple Pearsall's rib)

Ha, mostly I was just playing around with the salmonberry Pearsall's to see how it looked "wetted out."
For the first fly,
Hook: Mustad C53s #14
Thread: Pearsall's salmonberry
Hackle: ginger (bleached) partridge
Rib: Pearsall's primrose yellow
Tailing: CdL
Thorax: olive Krenik silk
For the second, which I'm calling a "Mardi Gras Mozzie"

:
Hook: Mustad C53s #14
Thread: Pearsall's salmonberry
Underbody/Tag: small gold tinsel
Rib: Pearsall's purple
Tailing: CdL
Thorax: Tups blend with an extra pinch of ginger seal
Hackle: partridge
For the latter, I'm looking to see how the tinsel underbody affects the color of the wet silk.

CB, these are really sharp. I especially like the thorax on the second fly. With that hackle the whole thing really comes together.

Fooling around like this is highly recommended -- nice use of a Pearsall's color (salmonberry) that I haven't seen before.

The bottom fly is my favorite. Just love how the colors play together and the proportions.
Mardi Gras!!! I wish I could get me a piece of King Cake. Mmmmm.

Thanks, gentlemen; I'll be interested in the salmonberry...it's not
quite as garish and "Ektachrome" to the naked eye as it appears in the photos. (And yes, I realize some of us are too young to get that reference.

) Harry Murray's "Mr. Rapidan" series aside, I've always thought Quill Gordon nymphs to be a kind of deep amber...I'm hoping the tinsel underbody will give the right overall cast to the proceedings.
I'll have to drown a few this afternoon and report back...an activity that will no doubt puzzle my wife. She came back home from a high-powered academic conference yesterday and found me working at the kitchen sink. "Whatcha doin', hon?" "Not much," I replied, "just shampooing my rabbit."
She's adamant now that I need to "get a life," but letumgo was right: "conditioned" dubbing is
marvelous.
