Blue Bottle Rocket by Mark Romero

Here's the second of two flies that Willowhead squeezed into his busy schedule for me. Unfortunately, the tail took somewhat of a beating in transit, but it's still a gorgeous creation IMHO ...

Blue Bottle Rocket
Hook: Partridge CS6JP (Jens Pilgaard Spey), 6/0
Thread: Danville Primrose 6/0 (would use pure white if doing over to match the butt)
Tag: Green & gold Kreinik braid
Tail: Three (3) golden pheasant crest segments dyed green and tied in normal fashion, one (1) Lady Amherst pheasant crest segment mounted upside down, and all veiled with two (2) blue peacock neck feathers
Butt: White ostrich herl
Body: Rear half is a blue and gold African trade bead; front half is three (3) different shades of blue dubbing blended in hand and picked out between rib wraps
Rib: Yellow Kreinik braided thread
Wing: Two (2) waterfowl feathers dyed blue and mounted flat-wing style
Collar: Sky blue burnt spey hackle
Head: Undyed thread
Eye: Left undyed -- something that is extremely rare for Mark to do

Holy Crap! Fireworks is right. It's amazing to see all those materials come together. I would imagine it's quite fun to ponder a material list to come up with a cohesive pattern. Between the materials and the proportions, this is a pleasure to look at.

Boy that tail really did take a beating..........wonder how the heck that happened..........kinna looks like a postal inspector might have manhandled it some. This is the kind of thing that freaks me out bout mailing flies.......jackasses have no clue as to what they're dealing with.

WOW!!! That is a stunningly beautiful fly Mark. Bill, you have done a great capturing the beauty of this fly in your photograph. The name is perfect, and takes the fly to a whole new level of audience participation. I imagine the small white highlight at the back of the bead as a puff of smoke from the rocket engine. The long curve of the hook implies the flight of the rocket. Kudos to you both.

I found that lil' trick out soon after I joined. I click everyone some do become bigger .....others don't .

reckon it depends on the "How or What" of the method used ......mutter, mutter, mutter

Damn shame the fly got so mangled in route............even the butt got mangled..........what the hell did they "assume?" ................that i had put explosives in the bead?

Wow! I have nothing to add that hasn't been said. The name sure is perfect though. I really love that bead!

Finney's Fancy arrived in the mail. Another stunning creation! I've got a good idea for a presentation case for it but need to find a nice piece of driftwood. I guess it'll have to wait for summer.
