Waterhen and Hare's Mask

Post by tie2fish » Mon Apr 04, 2011 12:04 pm

Ruard sent me some really nice dyed dubbing, including a bluish dun hare's mask that I have incorporated into this fanciful dressing ...

Hook: Daiichi 1760, #12
Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer, hot orange
Hackle: Waterhen
Tail: Coq de Leon
Body: Dun hare's mask spun Leisenring style on purple Pearsall's silk thread

This photo is lost.

tie2fish, Howdy;

Nice lookin fly. Like the mix of the orange showing as a tag and the purple as rib in the body..
you should catch a bunch with that.

Woooo, that is fancy. Nicely done. Interesting mix of materials. I still need a waterhen skin. I don't know what I'm waiting for.

Ruard ~
I did this time, as I'm in the middle of reading the Leisenring/Hidy book generously loaned to me by Dougsden and just had to try it. I doubt that I will continue to use this process, as I find it more tedious than other methods and it pretty much messed up my tweeds ;) .

Full waterhen skins are quite expensive even when you can find them, and most of the really good feathers for small wingless wets/spiders are on the wings anyhow.
