Abdomen: Two strands heron herl wrapped together
Thorax: Mole, lightly spun dubbed

Now this takes things up a notch. I'm really enjoying all the Tenkara flies. This is a beautiful combination. Especially the herl and hackle.

I would prefer to see this against a contrasting background. Send me a dozen of these so I can put them in my little photo setup.

Of course, shouldn't you be obligated to share these with the board members who mostly fish Tenkara rods?

At any rate, great fly: I especially like the thread-work near the eye. Did you use Mark's "soda straw" trick to hold the hackle back as you were tying off, or perhaps waterhen is just well behaved?

Very, very neat! I find it a little more difficult getting these to look so neat. It must be skill!

My Wasatch bodkin has has a half-hitch feature on one end, and I use that to slide a couple of double hitches over the hook eye and up under the hackle to finish things off.

i think that'd be a DUH! i been usin' the Soda Straw method for years, but in this application, your way is definately a, DUH! & C.B. i know you meant Mark L.

Bill, that has to be the work of a true master tyer. What a gorgeous fly.
i sure hope you'll tye some Tenkara flies when you come and do the Sowbug. There's a lot of interest in Tenkara style fly fishing these day.....including around here.....even on these big rivers. A guy came by the house and bought a rod just yesterday.....called back bout 6 hours later just to let us know he had outfished his partner 5 to 1 from a boat on the White. He hooked up over 30 Bows in that time, and didn't loose a single one. They were in a drift boat Tenkara fishing.....well, he was.....the other guy had a regular fly rod. Outta sight!

Thanks for elaborating--I've used a half-hitch tool before (mostly because--being a mere mortal--I've crowded the eye too much to whip-finish ) but wasn't sure how it would work with slippery Pearsall's.

Thanks CB. Half hitches work on Pearsall's especially well if you have some wax on the thread; I wait until the wax has a chance to set up a little, and then nick off the thread with a razor blade.
